Dr. Phil Watson, Associate Professor at the University of Idaho, is the lead co-author of the publication "Determining Economic Contributions and Impacts: What is the Difference and Why Should We Care?" In this webinar, he discusses those differences. Given the current changes in the economy from shutdowns by the COVID-19 pandemic, expansion of outdoor recreation, changes in public land and surface water policies, knowing the difference between and impact and contribution analysis is essential for the public and policymakers to understand.
Dr. Watson has worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Park Service, National Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, and he possesses a quantitative background in Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modeling, input-output analysis, benefit-cost analysis and spatial econometrics. Dr. Watson has published over 40 peer reviewed journal articles and since 2008 has been Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for $3.9 million in competitive grants. He received his Ph.D. in 2006 from Colorado State University.
